The step up from easy

With six fewer givens than an easy puzzle, there isn't always a cell with only one possible number. That's when the opposite question helps: where in this box can the 7 still go? If there's only one spot, that's a hidden single.

Roughly one medium puzzle in four needs that technique at least once. The rest can be solved with naked singles – they're just better hidden.

Several puzzles per sheet

Four puzzles per page is a good balance of readability and paper. For travel or a booklet for the week, six fit on a sheet as well; ten sheets make 60 puzzles.

Stuck?

Before you check the answer, write every remaining possibility into the tricky cells. A cell with a single candidate often jumps out once you do. We walk through each step on the techniques page.
